I have been in your shoes. For several years, I was the only person in charge of communications for a national organization. It can feel like you’re drowning at times. It can feel like you’re spinning your wheels and still not getting ahead.
I felt that way too, but I was tired. I was burnt out and didn’t want to keep feeling that way. So I took some time to figure out what was working and focus more on those strategies. I also found out what was not working, and I stopped those time-sucking habits.
At the end of it all, not only did I survive in that role, I thrived. I doubled our website visitors and e-newsletter subscribers. I created video stories. I engaged with our audience via social media. The difference was that I was focusing my time and energy on things I knew would work and let go of projects that didn’t make an impact.
Without a doubt, there was still a lot of work to be done. But with this new way of working I felt inspired, rejuvenated, and more excited than ever to continue the work. I knew that my precious time was spent on projects that truly made a difference.
